WINTER SEMINAR 2026
LIVERPOOL
Max Schur became Freud's personal physician in 1929. He had attended Freuds "Introductory Lectures " and chose Ruth Mack Brunswick for a personal analysis which began in 1924 and lasted until 1932 when he became a member of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society.
Freud lost faith in his doctors who were treating his cancer. Schur was their replacement. He accompanied the Freud family to London. Along with Anna, he looked after Sigmund during his closing years. It was Schur who administered a fatal dose of morphine at Freud's own request.
The book depicted above was first published in 1989. It contains Schur's medical, human, and psychoanalytic reflections on his celebrated patient. The book is a neglected classic that merits a close reading.
